Police have formally suspended the search for 10-year-old Ryder Ferregel more than two weeks after he went missing in a boating incident on Manukau Harbour.

Stuff website reports Ryder’s mother, 39-year-old Gemma Ferregel, died when the boat the pair were on capsized on November 6.

She was one of five on the boat at the time of the accident. Two men swam to shore and another man was airlifted out of the water by a rescue helicopter.

The website said despite an extensive search effort by family, friends and the police, there has been no sign of Ryder 17 days after the tragedy.
