The Reef House wins Gold at Queensland Tourism Awards

  • Written by The Australasian

The Reef House Boutique Hotel & Spa overlooking the beach at Palm Cove has been named the best Five Star Luxury Accommodation after winning Gold in the Queensland Tourism Awards.

The Reef House Director Malcolm Bean said it was a great honour for the boutique hotel to win the prestigious award which was keenly contested by some of the State’s most luxurious hotels.

“A big thank you goes to the dedicated team at The Reef House led by General Manager Wayne Harris as each staff member is committed to ensuring every guest has the relaxing luxury holiday of their dreams,” he said.

“Our vision to create individual Boutique Tropical Escapes at The Reef House has been an outstanding success since its introduction earlier this year.

“Guests are looking for a peaceful getaway that allows them to relax and rejuvenate in an adults-only beachside setting and we deliver that by having Escape Planning Specialists customise a personalised itinerary.

“Luxurious inclusions like a poolside butler delivering cold hand towels in the morning and sorbet in the afternoons are part of the experience and guests can participate in an Indigenous cultural experience, cocktail making, wine tasting, beach yoga and aqua aerobics as part of their personalised holiday.

“The Reef House Luxury Concierge Cedric Lootvoet and his team are on hand to assist guests during their stay to ensure total rest and relaxation. This modern day customer service philosophy can be traced back to 1972 when Brigadier David Thomson acquired the property as a private residence where visitors were treated as guests.

“The Brigadier operated the bar like an officer’s mess where guests could help themselves to drinks and sign chits for the honesty charge-back system. They would gather at the end of the day for the Brigadier’s rum punch and lively conversation. This tradition continues with the General Manager Wayne Harris hosting punch and canapes at twilight.”

Today The Reef House is owned by Malcolm Bean and David Horbelt who are undertaking a multi-million dollar refurbishment. They have introduced Australian custom-designed Reef House mattresses to ensure guests are comfortable, additional art, comfy sun lounges around the Mineral and Tranquility Pools, and new flooring for the restaurant’s wooden deck overlooking the Coral Sea. Work is underway on a walk-in wine cellar and new experiences for guests.
